The procession, more like a pilgrimage, bringing the lifelike figure of Jesus from historic Atotonilco, four miles away, to San Miguel is an awesome spectacle. At dawn on the Sunday before Palm Sunday, the otherwise heavily trafficked Avenida Indepencia is transformed into a splendid boulevard of sawdust artwork, grass paved walkways, curved arches covered with flowers and an air of respect and devotion. On his day, as El Senor passed by my vantage point, the sun sent down a beautful beam of light to spotlight his passing by. Here's a wonderful article about the ritual from our local paper, Atencion.
